SAN ANTONIO – Two children were hospitalized and one driver was arrested following a two-vehicle crash on the city’s Northwest Side late Monday night, according to San Antonio police.

The crash happened just before 10 p.m. on the Loop 410 access road, not far from Callaghan and Babcock roads.

According to police, the driver of a Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on the access road when a 2002 Ford Thunderbird disregarded the speed limit and failed to properly change lanes.

Police said the Thunderbird was coming down from a hill crest on the access road and hit the back of a Toyota Corolla that was carrying two children passengers.

The two children, ages 2 and 10, where both taken by ambulance to an area hospital to be checked out. They are expected to be OK.

SAPD said no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The driver of the Thunderbird was evaluated at the scene for DWI, but was found not to be intoxicated.

A preliminary police report states the driver of the Thunderbird, Roman Olivera, 20, was taken into custody on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond is set at $100,000.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, police said.
